Garden Build Update 4: Family Cottage Garden

The main bulk of the planting has been done and the space is beginning to look like a real garden. The walls and stairs, built by the client's themselves, will eventually be enveloped by the evergreen shrubs and herbaceous planting either side. The hedge, that currently just look like a line of little individual bonsai trees, will eventually provide a low but solid border to the lawn, to prevent the children accidentally wandering off the edge.

The garden is featured in my portfolio under Small Cottage Garden for a Young Family. In the portfolio I explain that the area near the house (shown) doesn't get much sun as the garden is North facing. The plants chosen for this area are specifically fairly shade loving and have a woodland feel. In the portfolio I explain: 'The seating area in the shade of the house has been designed to emphasise the cool shadiness. Evergreen shrubs and woodland planting envelope the area with lush foliage and provide a real sense of separation from the rest of the garden'
